The Fugg
Nobody knows
when The Fugg
will show up,
comes in
draped in black
dripping like a thick fog
that drops down,
covering,
completely,
with its filthy
curly claws,
searching deep
into every pore,
filling you with
an invisible glue
with insidious grip,
The Fugg slows you down,
summons paralysis
as it
steals your senses,
leaves you living
with the lights dimmed.
The Fugg fills you with
hesitations, and doubts
makes you baffled and bewildered,
never knowing how long
it's going to stay,
days, weeks, months?
Years even,
No one knows.
But you know when
The Fugg has,
taken hold of you.
Difficult to shake The Fugg off
and even if I do,
I know The Fugg will return
dragging me through bogs and troughs
asking everyone, Who are you?
They’ll reply,
What the hell has happened to him?
If they really wanted to know,
I could tell them
he’s somewhere submerged,
in the grip of The Fugg
where the familiar becomes a thorny forest,
full of threat and fear
sends me tumbling into
a topsy turvy world
where lies turn into truth
and truth becomes lies.
But all you get is silence.
and the growing fear
that one day,
The Fugg will stay with me forever.
you don’t want that,
for The Fugg's an expensive fellow,
with The Fugg by your side,
you grimly count the cost and the losses,
like your vim and vigour
as it pulls me into
strange and shifting lands,
a swirling, sliding, slipping place,
a mesh of shade and shadow.
life was fine before The Fugg arrived
I never knew The Fugg existed
but one fateful night
I made the acquaintance
with The Fugg
and now everything is different
as The Fugg obliterates
what came before,
recognition fades,
now I know not him that came before,
of his likes, dislikes and history
'tis all a mystery.
Each visit of The Fugg leaves me worse
eroding me as a wave would smother the shore
the wall paper of my world is slowly being
torn, stripped and peeled
leaving nothing,
but bare walls.
