Send your stuff to seriouslitmag AT gmail.com. Let me know what category you’re submitting to in the subject line.
What I generally look for in each category:
I personally lean more toward experimental / raw / weird fiction. However, I won’t turn down something more traditional if it’s really well-written.
Whether it’s a voice-driven piece that takes place inside the speaker’s head or it's one with a well-defined world and characters, I’m mainly concerned with how it affects me emotionally. If it can actually make me laugh or cry, I’ll probably publish it.
I like a lot of different kinds of poems, but I have a particular leaning toward the kinds of poems that feel like they're screaming in your ear. I wanna see your tortured confessions—those dark and private thoughts that you wouldn't want to reveal through any other form except this one.
I have nothing against lush and lyrical poems, but it might be harder to win me over with those. At best, they'll get a good craft note from me, but rarely an acceptance.
I’m not looking for intelligent argumentative essays for this category (even though I might like reading them elsewhere). And if you have more conventional memoirs, they might not do well here either.
I want to hear actual stories from your life—messy break-ups, that fight you had with your mom or dad, that one time you bailed your degenerate uncle out of jail, etc.
If it’s bad enough to upset your boss, I’ll probably take it.
